Windows Firewall Settings
One must be very much aware of the windows firewall, The Windows firewall actually acts as a wall and protects your computer from outsiders attack or from unsolicited access, when you use Internet connection. It does not allow any unauthorized information to be leaked out of your computer through Internet connection. If there is a Trojan or a virus in your computer, you need to reset your Windows firewall settings. This can be done by typing "Netsh Firewall Reset" in the command line or else you can go to the go to 'Control Panel', there you are supposed to select 'Security Center', then open Windows firewall, select the 'Advanced' tab and click on 'Restore Defaults'.
There are some important points that you need to consider while reset the firewall in your computer.
The Windows firewall blocks all the unsolicited connections to your computer, sometimes you may find it necessary to allow certain connections to your computer. It can be playing a multiplayer game on Internet and receiving files through a messenger service. You can find a Windows Security Alert dialog box that appears on your screen and you can click on the 'Unblock' button in order to unblock the concerned program.
You will also find 'Add Program' option in the 'Exception' tab of Windows firewall. That can add the programs which are not working properly due to network problems. You can also go and select the required program from the Programs list or either browse the area where the program is being stored.
You can connect to certain ports as well. The firewall blocks certain unsolicited usage of ports, you can simply choose the add port button, and then you can type the name of the port.
Similarly you might want to connect to certain ports. The Windows firewall blocks the unsolicited usage of ports. In this case you can choose the 'Add Port' button and type the name of the port and port number and the concerned protocol option; it can be TCP or UDP. However to add a port it could always be open to unsolicited entries. You always have to choose 'Add Port' if and only if you are unable to add a program to the Exceptions list.
